In this episode, I talk about procrastination. This is an area I struggle with, and I am working on breaking the cycle of procrastination so I can get more accomplished and improve my quality of life. I’m currently reading “Procratination: Why You Do It, What to Do About It NOW” by Jane b. Burka and Lenora M. Yuen. The first part of the book shares some things to help us understand why we procrastinate:
The Cycle of Procrastination
- “I’ll start early this time”
- “I’ve got to start soon.”
- “What if I don’t start?”
- “There’s still time.”
- “There’s something wrong with me.”
- The final choice: To do or not to do
- “I’ll never procrastinate again!”
Reasons for Procrastination:
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of losing the battle
- Fear of separation
- Fear of intimacy
Questions: Do you struggle with procrastination? Do you have any tips to overcome it?
Why overcome procrastination, why not embrace it and look for positives in it?
I did a blog post about the powers of procrastination; procrastination from a different perspective, a few years age: http://www.richardfarrar.com/the-powers-of-procrastination
Interesting post. I definitely see some of your points, but it seems that you are referring to putting things off a little bit on purpose. I wouldn’t categorize this as procrastination – just planning. To me, that is different than putting things off because of fear or laziness.
There are some (I guess you are) that doing well under pressure like that, but I know that I’m not usually one of them. When there’s extra pressure like that, my quality and productivity tend to decrease. So, for me, it’s usually not good to put things off. Then, again, I’m just working through this.
